Counseling Services at BWRI

BWRI offers several types of counseling resources for women seeking to survive, emerge from, or heal from battering relationships.

One-on-One Counseling:
Sessions may be scheduled free of charge with counselors in our Leominster or Gardner offices. Counselors will see a woman for up to three sessions. During these sessions, information about domestic violence will be presented, and the woman's individual situation and needs will be assessed. If needed and requested, our counselors will help women find longer-term therapy or services. Following the third one-on-one session, women may choose to participate in one of our ongoing domestic violence groups.

Group Counseling:
BWRI Counselors facilitate several on-going domestic violence groups from the Gardner and Leominster offices. These are not "drop in" groups, but structured sessions with a strong expectation of confidentiality. Women who are interested in these groups should contact the Gardner or Leominster office for information about the next available session they may attend. There is an intake procedure for joining a group.

Telephone Crisis Lines:
BWRI maintains a 24-hour crisis line (978-537-8601) for those needing immediate intervention for domestic violence-related issues. Our crisis line staff can assist women looking for shelter or safe homes, and refer callers to resources both in the Montachusett area and throughout Massachusetts.

BWRI Counselors will also see women on an emergency walk-in basis in the Gardner and Leominster offices. Telephone Outreach is provided to follow up on women who have been in court or received services.
